Nabintou & Bakary
A Snowy DC Anniversary Session
As much as I wish spring would come a little faster, one perfect snowy day made me appreciate winter couple's sessions. The day before Valentine's Day, I met Nabintou and Bakary for an anniversary session. The softly falling snow that morning created an intimate atmosphere in the gardens behind the Smithsonian Castle in Washington, DC.
The Enid A. Haupt Garden behind the Smithsonian Institution Building (also known as the Smithsonian Castle) is open from dawn to dusk all year long, is free, and (best of all) doesn't require permits for small group photography sessions.
We started at the front of the Castle, where the arches outside the entrance created dramatic framing for Nabintou and Bakary.
As we walked throughout the gardens, I could see the pink magnolia trees beginning to bud. The saucer magnolias are one of my favorites, but unfortunately, winter storms damaged many of the blooms this year. Next year will hopefully yield some beautiful magnolias!
Besides the showstopping view of the back of the Castle, there are plenty of other spots for photos. We walked through the Moongate Statues into the Fountain Garden, and down surprisingly green pathways around the building.
The Smithsonian Castle may now be one of my favorite photography locations in DC. I can't wait to go back in the spring once the garden is blooming!
